Clan Currie Society Announces Dates for 10th Anniversary Edition of "The Pipes of Christmas"

Advance Ticket Sale for Concert "Friends" Begins Today

As part of their ongoing fundraising efforts, the Clan Currie Society announced today that special advance VIP tickets are now on sale for their annual "Pipes of Christmas" concerts in New York and New Jersey.

The popular Celtic Christmas program returns to New Jersey on Saturday, December 20 at Central Presbyterian Church in Summit, NJ at 2PM and 8PM. The "Pipes" will also return to New York City at 2:30 PM on Sunday, December 21 at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church.

The Kevin Ray Blandford Memorial Pipe Band performs at New York’s Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church at the 2007 edition of The Pipes of Christmas.

The program will feature the music of Christmas accompanied by a selection of readings taken from the Celtic literature of Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, as well as Scripture. Featured performers include Scottish harpist Jennifer Port, the Scottish Country Dance trio Local Hero, the Solid Brass ensemble, and the Kevin Ray Blandford Memorial Pipe Band of Redlands, CA.

"The Pipes of Christmas" is the Society’s primary fundraising event. Not only does it warm our hearts, but also it fuels the Clan Currie engine, which delivers panoply of Scottish and Celtic cultural events and benefits to Friends. Some of these include mounting art and history exhibitions on Ellis Island, representing the Clan at Tartan Day in New York City, and sponsoring Highland Games in the United States and Scotland.

In addition, we are proud to report that we achieved a long-cherished goal, thanks to the generosity of our Members and Friends, establishing the Alex Currie Memorial Scholarship for Bagpipe. This past July, John Wallace MacLellan of Maple City, Michigan became the second recipient of the scholarship, and he immediately put it to excellent use, studying bagpipe performance this past summer at the celebrated Gaelic College in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

"Friends" Tickets Available Now

Only "Friends" tickets are now on sale. Tickets available now offer a choice of several different guest premiums. At the Braveheart level, concert supporters will be seated in a special VIP reserved seating area and will be recognized in our program journal and magazine which highlights the Society’s activities. Braveheart level ticket holders will also be invited to attend the post-concert reception for Friends and Sponsors following the evening concert in New Jersey or the afternoon concert in New York City.

Highland Chieftain level of supporters will be seated in the VIP reserved seating area and be recognized in the program journal. Chieftain level ticket holders will have their support recognized in the program journal.

About "The Pipes of Christmas"

Since making its debut in 1999, The Pipes of Christmas has played to standing room only audiences. Given the popularity of the program, a second concert was added in 2001 to accommodate the high-demand for tickets.

New England Fiddle Champion, Paul Woodiel.

That same year, Clan Currie began an award-winning partnership with TV-36, Communities On Cable, by broadcasting concert highlights on Christmas Eve to an estimated 40,000 cable subscribers. Four of the Society’s productions were recipients of the prestigious Telly Award for television production excellence. In 2003, the concert was broadcast live on TV-36 as a fundraiser for the community access station.

Now a cherished holiday institution, the concert has provided audiences with a stirring and reverent celebration of the Christmas season and the Celtic spirit. Audience-goers return year after year to experience the program, many reporting that the Pipes of Christmas has become part of their family’s annual Christmas tradition.

Over the last nine years, the concert has received great critical acclaim. In his review for Classical New Jersey Magazine, Paul Somers wrote, "The whole evening was constructed to introduce gem after gem and still have a finale which raised the roof. In short, it was like a well constructed fireworks show on the Glorious Fourth. The Westfield (NJ) Leader described the concert as “a unique sound of power and glory nowhere else to be found." Willa Conrad, Classical Music Editor for The Star Ledger described the concert as a "majestic seasonal experience."
