Preliminary Plans Announced for Tartan Week 2007
From Ellis Island to Grand Central Station to Central Park, New York City is once again preparing to turn tartan. The Clan Currie Society has announced plans to conduct their annual observance of Tartan Day at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum on Saturday, April 7, 2007 as part of Tartan Week 2007. Leading up to the Ellis Island celebration will be a week filled with spectacular events celebrating Scottish heritage and culture.
Tartan Week 2007 will run from April 1 to 8, 2007. In addition to the Ellis Island celebration, some of the signature Tartan Week events include: • a 10k “Scotland Run” through Central Park on April 1 Other events include "Tartan Bites" - a series of events promoting contemporary Scottish literature; "Scotland Rocks New York" showcasing Scotland's vibrant music scene in a contemporary music festival; and a joint presentation by the The annual Tartan Day Parade on 6th Avenue is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 14 in 2007.
