The Kevin Ray Blandford Memorial Pipe Band and Solid Brass ensemble perform "Amazing Grace" at the sold out Pipes of Christmas concert on December 15, 2007.

"We believe it is especially significant that the 2007 Pipes of Christmas will be aired on Sunday, January 6th which marks the Feast of the Epiphany, known for its commemoration of the arrival of the gift-bearing Wise Men to the babe Jesus in Bethlehem" said Fred Honold, President and CEO of TV-36 Communities on Cable.  "Just as their visit brought the story of the baby Jesus out of Bethlehem and into the wider world, so it's our desire to bring the music and story of the Pipes of Christmas to a wider audience."

The Pipes of Christmas features performances by many leading Scottish and Irish performers, including popular country dance trio Local Hero, Celtic harpist Jennifer Port, and the Kevin Ray Blandford Memorial Pipe Band.  Other members of the company include Metropolitan Opera star Mark Delavan, guitarist Steve Gibb and the Solid Brass ensemble.

The Grand Summit Hotel was the lead sponsor of the 2007 production.  Additional support was provided by Glenfarclas Single Malt Scotch Whisky, the Irish Pub and Inn in Atlantic City, Walkers Shortbread and Dewar's 12 Scotch Whisky.

About The Pipes of Christmas

From the bold sounds of the bagpipes and the harmonious blending of brass, strings and percussion, to the poetic and lyrical words that complement them, the Pipes of Christmas is a festival for the soul. Audience-goers return year after year to experience the program, many reporting that the Pipes of Christmas has become part of their family’s annual Christmas tradition.

Over the years, the concert has received critical acclaim. Classical New Jersey Magazine said of the concert, "The whole evening was constructed to introduce gem after gem and still have a finale which raised the roof. In short, it was like a well constructed fireworks show on the Glorious Fourth." The Westfield (NJ) Leader described the concert as “a unique sound of power and glory nowhere else to be found."

The concert is produced by the Clan Currie Society, a non-profit, tax-exempt educational and cultural organization.  Since debuting in 1998, the concert has annually played to standing room only audiences.  In 2006, the concert made its NYC debut at the beautiful Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church as a special fundraiser for the Society's new scholarship program.

An Award-Winning Collaboration

TV-36 first began broadcasting concert highlights in 2000.  Since that time, the program has been the recipient of three Telly Awards and a 2003 Videographer Award for video production excellence.  The 2003 concert was televised live as a fund raiser for the station.

The Telly Awards were founded in 1980 to showcase and give recognition to outstanding non-network and cable commercials. The competition was later expanded to include film and video productions. In the past 22 years, the Telly Awards have become a well-known and highly respected national competition in which all 50 states have been represented by past winners and finalists. The Telly has become one of the most sought-after awards in the TV, commercial, and video industry.
