“We think of Bonnie Brae as our clan’s home games in the United States,” said Robert Currie, President of the Clan Currie Society. Currie was part of the original planning committee for the first Bonnie Brae Games and served as Director of Piping and Drumming until 1992. In recognition of his efforts in establishing the games, Currie was named Honorary Chieftain for the 1993 gathering.
The Clan Currie Society announced today that they will host a clan information tent at the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville, Ontario. The games are scheduled for August 4 and 5, 2006 with competitions and entertainment filling both days. Literally hundreds of thousands of people have found themselves drawn once a year to the Glengarry Games to witness an outstanding display of music, dance, sports, pageantry and tradition “Clan Currie is thrilled to be returning to these prestigious Games” said Robert Currie, President of the Clan Currie Society. "Since 1948, the Glengarry Games have played host to nearly a million visitors. This incredible figure makes Glengarry one of the largest highland games in the world.” For 2007, the clan tent will again be hosted by Society members Jeffrey and Megan Crooke of Cornwall, Ontario. “The entire Society owes a debt of gratitude to Jeffrey and Megan for returning to host the Clan tent. We encourage all of our worldwide members to participate in their local games and festivals,” said Currie. The Town of Maxville is located one hour east of Ottawa, Ontario and one hour west of Montreal, Quebec. August 18, 2007 – Bute Highland Games and 2007 International Clan Currie Society Gathering – Rothesay, Isle of Bute, Scotland Save the Date - the 2007 Clan Currie Reunion will take place on the Isle of Bute in Scotland August 16-19. The centerpiece of the gathering will be the 60th Anniversary Bute Highland Games. The Society has selected Glasgow-based tour operator, Nigel Cole to coordinate the trip on behalf of Society members and friends. According to Society president, Robert Currie, “The 2007 clan gathering promises to be even more impressive than our last international reunion in 2001.” For 2001, the clan met at the Blairgowrie Scottish Games in Perthshire, Scotland. While the international gatherings normally occur every five years, Clan Currie opted to wait an additional year so as to share in the fun and excitement of Bute’s 60th Anniversary games. The beautiful Isle of Bute is home to many significant MacMhuirich/Currie farms and estates, including Balliecurrie farm and the lands formerly known as Balilone and Achmor – two sixteenth century estates overlooking Loch Fad.
