Bonnie Brae Prepares to Host 20th Anniversary Scottish Games Clan Currie’s “Home” Games in the US Return on June 3, 2006
The Clan Currie Society will return to the popular Bonnie Brae Scottish Games on Saturday, June 3, 2006. The games will be held at Bonnie Brae School in Millington, New Jersey.
"Clan Currie is thrilled to be returning to this outstanding highland gathering" said Robert Currie, of the Clan Currie Society. "We think of Bonnie Brae as our clan’s home games in the United States and we’re looking forward to greeting Clansfolk from far and wide". Currie was part of the original planning committee for the first Bonnie Brae Games and served as Director of Piping and Drumming until 1992. In recognition of his efforts in establishing the games, he was named Honorary Chieftain for the 1993 gathering.
The event is held at the Bonnie Brae Educational Facility to assist the school and raise community awareness of the work done on behalf of the boys that attend the special needs facility. Bonnie Brae, accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), is one of the nation's preeminent therapeutic learning environments for troubled adolescent boys who have been neglected, abused, or abandoned.
Over 500 pipers and drummers in two dozen plus bagpipe bands will compete and march throughout the day with a grand parade at Noon and again at 5:00PM. Also competing are over one hundred Highland Dancers ranging in ages from five to the early twenties. Dance competitions include the Highland Fling and the Sword Dance. Other favorite events are the Scottish Athletics, including the hammer throw, shot put and the caber toss.
