Clan Currie Society Set to Return to Glengarry Highland Games
The Clan Currie Society announced today that they will host a clan information tent at the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville, Ontario. The games are scheduled for August 4 and 5, 2006 with competitions and entertainment filling both days. Literally hundreds of thousands of people have found themselves drawn once a year to the Glengarry Games to witness an outstanding display of music, dance, sports, pageantry and tradition. “Clan Currie is thrilled to be returning to these prestigious Games” said Robert Currie, President of the Clan Currie Society. "Since 1948, the Glengarry Games have played host to nearly a million visitors. This incredible figure makes Glengarry one of the largest highland games in the world.” For 2006, the clan tent will again be hosted by Society members Jeffrey and Megan Crooke of Cornwall, Ontario. “The entire Society owes a debt of gratitude to Jeffrey and Megan for returning to host the Clan tent. We encourage all of our worldwide members to participate in their local games and festivals,” said Currie. In addition to the North American Pipe Band Championship with more than 60 bands competing, the games will include all the traditional elements of Scottish highland games including, the Canadian Scottish Heavyweight Championship, highland dance, and music workshops and performances. The Games will also feature a Tartan Ball and a Military Tattoo. The Town of Maxville is located one hour east of Ottawa, Ontario and one hour west of Montreal, Quebec.
