Clan Currie Society Featured in UK Today Society Cited as a Premier Organization for Ex-Pat Scots
The Clan Currie Society was one of several groups profiled in the February 2006 edition of UK Today as an example of an outstanding ex-patriot organization serving Scots in America. “It is so important to hold on to our heritage and ties home whilst we are living in the United States. You can become very homesick and isolated in America,” says UK Today publisher, Yomi Karade. “ “Organizations like the Clan Currie Society provide numerous opportunities for Scots to gather together and enjoy many of events, including ceilidhs and Burns Night gatherings, they may have otherwise left behind in Scotland. Clan Currie is unique in that it doesn’t operate exclusively in one part of the country, rather they regularly coordinate programs in the U.S., Canada and Scotland.” Launched in September of 2005, UK Today aims to provide a lively mix of news, entertainment, sport and features aimed at Brits living in the Northeast of the country. The monthly newspaper is owned by British-born publisher Yomi Karade. Now living in New Jersey, she says that she noticed a hole in the market, when it came to providing exciting news and events for British people. "I was looking for a newspaper that focused directly on what British people were doing in NJ, NY, CT (Tri-state) PA and Boston. I wanted to know what British people were doing and where I could buy and sit down to eat some good British food, but I didn't know where to go. So after asking around I realized that other British People wanted to know more about what was going on in the community." The news and features team consists of a dedicated team based in NJ and
London. Regular items include a Brit interview with a well-known personality
as well as the latest music and entertainment from the UK, as well as
an exciting blend of news from the northeast. UK Today is in partnership
with First Touch Soccer magazine. For further information on UK Today,
