Tartan Day Film Wins Honors for Production Excellence “The Crafter’s Song,” Clan Currie’s Tartan Day film has been honored with the prestigious Telly Award for video production excellence. The first documentary film produced in America about National Tartan Day, “The Crafter’s Song” is narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Cliff Robertson. The film was produced by the Clan Currie Society in collaboration with Metaphor Pictures of New York. The film explores Tartan Day through the eyes of four of Scotland’s premiere crafters during their exhibition on Ellis Island in 2003 as part of Clan Currie’s annual Tartan Day program. Each craft represents part of Scotland’s “portable culture” that was brought with Scottish immigrants to North America from Colonial times to the present. The Telly Awards were founded in 1980 to showcase and give recognition to outstanding non-network and cable commercials. The competition was later expanded to include film and video productions. In the past 24 years, the Telly Awards have become a well known and highly respected national competition in which all 50 states have been represented by past winners and finalists. The Telly has become one of the most sought-after awards in the TV, commercial, and video industry.
This year nearly 15,000 videos were entered. Entries do not compete against each other. Rather, they compete against a standard of excellence. Judges are comprised of a panel of producers from network television, production companies, and corporate video departments. The Clan Currie Society is making their documentary film available on loan to museums and fellow Scottish organizations.
