Clan Currie Society To Host Scotch Tasting Reception The Blizzard of 2005 tried its hardest to keep guests from Summit’s Fourth Annual Burns Night celebration – but failed! Almost 100 stalwart Scots and wannabe Scots braved the elements to enjoy an outstanding evening of poetry, music, and dance. For those who thought better of braving the elements, the Clan Currie Society is offering a special Scotch Tasting Reception at the Grand Summit Hotel on Friday, February 18, 2005. The program runs from 7 to 9PM. The reception is complimentary for all those who held reservations for Burns Night, $10 for all others. According to Society president Robert Currie, “We are delighted to be holding this special bonus reception first and foremost for our guests that could not attend Burns Night due to the snowstorm. We are also extending an invitation to those friends and supporters that would like to sample some of Scotland’s finest whiskies. We are especially grateful to the Grand Summit Hotel for helping to make this event possible.” Six “classic” whiskies will be sampled over the course of the evening, including Caol Ila, Talisker, Cragganmore, and Glenkinchie. Each whisky represents a different region of Scotland’s whisky making industry. Whisky Aficionados Evan and Gregor Cattanach to Conduct Tastings
The father and son duo of Evan and Gregor Cattanach, “ambassadors” of the malt whisky trade will lead the tastings. A native of Kingussie, Scotland, Evan Cattanach began his career with single malt whisky in 1961 with the Scottish Malt Distillers - the production arm of Johnnie Walker. He spent the next 33 years managing the production of single malt whisky. He worked in all four of Scotland's whisky-producing regions at 15 different distilleries. During his career, Evan has worked at some of the most revered distilleries in Scotland. Evan’s son, Gregor Cattanach, follows in his father’s footsteps. Originally from Speyside, Scotland, Gregor joined the Scotch whisky business in 2000, but is no stranger to the industry. Gregor grew up alongside his father at some of the great distilleries in Scotland such as Caol Ila, Cragganmore and Cardhu where Evan worked as Master Distiller producing these quality single malts. While training in Scotland, Gregor developed a true passion for Scotch whisky, the production process, maturation, blending, and of course the great stories that were told over a “wee” dram. Gregor conducts his own nosings and tastings throughout the States and has already passed on his knowledge and passion to thousands of people who have attended his private tastings. Joining the Cattanachs will be Pipe Major David Palladino. Door prizes will include gift tins of Walkers Shortbread and other Scots-themed items.
