"Pipes of Christmas" to be Broadcast to over 40,000 homes in Central New Jersey TV-36 Communities On Cable To Air Concert Highlight Continuing its reputation for producing quality community access programming, TV-36 Communities on Cable, will once again broadcast highlights of Clan Currie’s popular "Pipes of Christmas" concert. The program will air on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day on a rotating basis with other holiday programming. The concert, now in its sixth year, has again achieved sell-out status even with the addition of a third performance this year. Over 1,300 tickets have been sold for the three-performance run. The popular Christmas program features Scottish and Irish Christmas carols combined with readings from Scripture and Celtic literature. Concert producer Robert Currie, president of the Clan Currie Society, brought the idea for the broadcast to TV-36 several years ago. "Televising the sold-out concert over TV-36 has become something of a tradition in our community in the same way "The Pipes of Christmas" has. We remain truly inspired by public’s response to our event. This broadcast, featuring some of the finest moments from our program is our Christmas gift to the City of Summit and surrounding area as a way of thanking the community for their overwhelming support of all of our programs". Currie also acknowledged the generous support of concert sponsors, including The Grand Summit Hotel, Glenfiddich Single Malt Whisky, Walkers Shortbread, and Stewart’s of Kearny in helping to make both the concert and the broadcasts possible. Past televised productions of the concert have garnered a host of video production awards for both Clan Currie and TV-36. Last year, Clan Currie expanded their filmmaking programs with the completion of their first documentary film, "The Crafter’s Song," narrated by Academy Award-winning actor, Cliff Robertson. The upcoming broadcast of "The Pipes of Christmas" joins an already distinguished roster of musical events produced at Central Presbyterian Church via their popular Brown Bag concert series and the hosting of the Summit Musical Festival, both of which are also aired over TV-36. The Clan Currie Society, a NJ-based, international, non-profit cultural and educational organization, is active in preserving and promoting highland heritage at Scottish Games, ethnic festivals, as well as community groups and classrooms. The Society has over 2,000 members worldwide. The organization started as a family name society in Glasgow, Scotland in 1959 to further the knowledge and appreciation of the MacMhuirich bardic dynasty. The MacMhuirichs served for over 700 years as professional poets to the Lords of the Isles and later to the MacDonalds of Clanranald. The Red Book of Clanranald, one of Gaelic Scotland’s literary treasures, was penned by successive generations of the MacMhuirich family. Today, the organization is a leading American-based foundation that focuses on celebrating the Scots-Gaelic origins of the Currie name as well as producing outstanding programs and events to honor Scotland’s rich culture and ancestry. The Clan Currie Society also produces the annual National Tartan Day celebration at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. For further information, visit their website at www.clancurrie.com.
