Summit’s TV-36 Communities on Cable and Clan Currie Society Share Leading Television Award for Excellence

SUMMIT, NJ - Continuing its reputation for producing quality community access programming, TV-36 Communities on Cable, has once again demonstrated its prominence in local broadcasting by being named a recipient of a bronze statue in the 23rd Annual Telly Awards.

The program recognized for the award was a televised version of the popular Pipes of Christmas concert produced by Summit’s Clan Currie Society. The annual holiday program features Scottish and Irish Christmas carols and readings from Scripture and Celtic literature. Concert producer Robert Currie, president of the Clan Currie Society, brought the idea for the program to TV-36. "Televising the sold-out concert over TV-36 was our Christmas gift to the City of Summit as a way of thanking the community for their overwhelming support of our programs," said Currie. "TV-36 was absolutely wonderful to work with and completely professional in every way."

Currie, who acted as the show’s producer, was joined by a production team from New York-based Metaphor Pictures led by director David Dessel. Currie and Dessel received invaluable support from TV-36 crewmembers Caroline Shelby, Station Manager, along with P.T. Kizzia and Jerry Roche, both station volunteers. Filmed at Summit’s Central Presbyterian Church, the hour-long program was aired on TV-36 on Christmas Day.

The Telly Awards were founded in 1980 to showcase and give recognition to outstanding non-network and cable commercials. The competition was later expanded to include film and video productions. In the past 22 years, the Telly Awards have become a well known and highly respected national competition in which all 50 states have been represented by past winners and finalists. The Telly has become one of the most sought-after awards in the TV, commercial, and video industry.

This year nearly 15,000 videos were entered. Entries do not compete against each other. Rather, they compete against a standard of excellence. Judges are comprised of a panel of producers from network television, production companies, and corporate video departments.

The broadcast of The Pipes of Christmas joins an already distinguished roster of musical events produced at Central Presbyterian Church via their popular Brown Bag concert series which are also aired over TV-36. TV-36 Communities on Cable is the public access cable television station serving the communities of Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights, Millburn, Short Hills and Springfield.
